It is wear-resistant and has good UV light filtering capabilities. 
It filters UV light with wavelengths shorter than 400/370 nm, lowers the vignette created by UV light, and stops UV light from burning the CCD.
Additionally, it can block the effects of invisible UV radiation, allowing for a clear long shot when photographing landscapes.
